What are fitness bikes?

As explained by Wikipedia an "exercise bicycle or bike, or stationary bicycle, or Exercycle is a device with saddle, pedals, and some form of handlebars arranged as on a bicycle, but used as exercise equipment rather than transportation. A cycloergometer, cycle ergometer or bicycle ergometer is a stationary bicycle with an ergometer to measure the work done by the exerciser".

Exercise bikes – How it all began

The real indoor cycling as we know it today, was invented in 1987 by the SouthAfrican cyclist Johnny Goldberg, who invited his cyclists' mates for an indoor cycling session, after installing a few exercise bikes in his garage. Later on, precisely in 1989, Johnny started his first fitness bikes center in California, and from this point in time, stationary bike indoor training grew in popularity to what we know today. One of the key milestones in history was probably 2002, when world renowned cyclist Greg Lemond (who won the Tour the france in 1986, 1989 and 1990) started LeMond Fitness, his own company manufacturing fitness bikes for fitness studios. Today, exercise bike training is done in a class environment with trained instructors (certified by some of the best exercise bike manufacturers such as Schwinn, Spinning or by national associations) or train individually at homes, hotels, finess clubs.
